"Un Paese ci vuole" takes its title from Cesare Pavese’s reflection on the intrinsic human need for a sense of place and belonging. Commissioned by the ICCD as part of a cataloging project, this visual exploration evolves into a deeply personal investigation into the relationship between memory, identity, and the traces that shape our connection to a territory. The project examines the province of Cosenza, Calabra region, in the south of Italy, presenting it not as a fixed entity but as a dynamic and evolving construct—shaped by both tangible and intangible elements.
Through landscapes, objects, atmospheres, and recollections, the project assembles a fragmented yet cohesive narrative of place. Rather than adhering to rigid categorizations, it embraces a fluid, open-ended approach that mirrors the ever-changing nature of human experience within space.
The images captured evoke both the specific and the universal, acting as vessels for collective and personal memories. They offer a glimpse into a place that feels both familiar and elusive, inviting reflection on the layered meanings of belonging and how landscapes and objects serve as silent witnesses to shared histories.
"Un Paese ci vuole" speaks to the universal human longing for roots—an anchor in a world that is constantly shifting and transforming. Like Pavese’s words, the project conveys how deeply a place shapes our sense of self and our connection to the world around us.
