"time travel" is a photographic exploration of time and memory. Aleksei Kazantsev produces a series of images from a „forgotten time“. In the making of memories, time passes as an illusion. What went by barely noticed and half-remembered, now resurfaced from the collective unconscious. The focus of this work is on the contrast between our subjective recollection and what could be called documentation, seemingly objective. Archival images are subject to the tell-tale signs, collecting additional layers, particles clinging to the film, visible scratches and stains. Here the artist chooses within fragments what might have been originally overlooked, and builds up smaller fragments to be past fiction. With unobvious links, the photographic images are constructed memory and at the same time deconstructed reality.
