Dear mom,
The journey continues.
I'm exhausted, I feel like I'm walking aimlessly.
Dear mom,
There were a few hiccups but nothing major, don't worry.
My mind is populated with shadows, they chase me in circles. I escape from constant violence.
Dear mom,
I'm almost there, finally!
This journey is endless, I wish you were here, with me. I wish I had brought you with me.
Dear mom,
I have arrived.
I have arrived, finally! After two years, finally!
Dear mom,
Everything OK,
I miss you.
I miss you.
From the Ivory Coast to Tuoro sul Trasimeno.
In telling the story of Aboubacar Diallo, Buba for his friends in Italy, I reconstruct in an imaginative way the journey, the efforts, the sacrifices and the emotions in a poetic tale that the boy tells his mother, who was unable to see anything of this odyssey.
Having left at just 15 years old without notifying his family and in search of a better future, the boy crossed borders, found disparate jobs to pay for his journey and traveled thousands of km using 5 means of transport in which he risked his life every time.
In the reconstruction of the route, all the shots were set in Tuoro sul Trasimeno, his new home, with the aim of showing her mother also the place where she now lives.
In this project Buba becomes an active part through his own memories which, buried and dispersed, resurface through color photographs from his personal archive and who, in a deliberate contamination of styles and languages, narrates this story as a great adventure with the idea of making of the observer the traveler.
An immersive experience that directs us to go deeper into a complex topic such as immigration and not to think with easy slogans.
