What is a Monument? What is the difference between a monument and an historical building? How does contemporary cities relate to their monuments? What is the connection between the identity of a population and the architecture that serves as a symbol? Why do we choose certain buildings and decide to Monumentalise them and give them a value of symbols? And what is the role of these symbolic buildings in our society? This series, part of a wider research over Monuments and Monumentalisation, focuses on Berlin, with its rough, sketchy urban/historical stratification and its current “in progress” phase, can be seen as a starting point for a broader reflection on the idea of Monuments in our cities.
