What had begun as the cataloging of securing structures of the buildings damaged by the earthquake has slowly turned into a broader series questioning the concept itself of safety. The term "safely", repeated continuously as a mantra by that channel connecting science to information via politics, only seems to cause its opposite, a state of perpetual inadequacy that further undermines the already fragile relationship between the individual and reality. A cultural horizon that does everything to show off its invulnerability right when the existing trauma would only require to be experienced. It is a dialogue that gets denied in the name of the religion of appearance. This work, playing with the appearances and what is hidden beyond them, intends to claim the value of insecurity, interruption, loss, and transformation as crucial moments of living itself. The itinerary's focal point is the building-church that, in the tragic irony of the disguise put in place by the securing operation, takes shape as an impeccable metaphor of the contemporary. The photographs have been taken in central Italy areas that have been affected by the earthquakes in 2016 and 2017. The title does not have a proper translation: "Messa In Sicurezza", literally "placed in safety", refers to the measures taken in the construction field to secure a building, but "Messa" can also be "Mass".
