Created during a night residency in Milano, Esercizi Obbligatori atto II (Compulsory Exercises act II) narrates the individual in daily existence, the difficulty of living, the continuous effort of the body to adapt to the imposed limits. Each night the performers arrived at the indicated address without knowing either the space or the actions to be performed, each night directions, limits and impositions were given. A woman undresses with her leg tied, a man eats with blindfolded eyes and ears, two people walk in an unknown and modified space, blindfolded and made vulnerable and exposed. Simple gestures such as eating or undressing were deformed by the amputation of one or more possibilities. In other words, the body that adapts and accepts. The polaroid is the chosen medium, a photographic tool whose result cannot be altered or modified.
All my artistic research investigates the concepts of power, limits, control and relationship. When I started designing this work I wanted it to be defined by a tension in space - characterized only by internal movements - which remains unexploded, the uselessness of the various actions creating a condition of expectation that is never resolved.
Trained in photography, fine arts and cinema, I’ve worked for 5 years as news photographer, before understanding that reality does not exist and moving to a conceptual approach in her research and artistic practice. My practice is deeply contemporary, characterized by body participation and performance construction, activating a dialogue between history, culture and social structures. Looking back on Society as a Family, and on Private as Collective, my work merges different forms of investigation concerning power, overlapping public and private, family rituals and collective archetypes. The subject of my research is the political body and the impact of power dynamics on personal and communities' history. My photographs, performances, videos stage the body and society's archetypes in order to articulate political ideas, personal struggles, women's conditions, society’s expectations.
My works have been exhibited in Italy and abroad at important institutions and events, including Fotografie Forum Frankfurt; Mediterranean Biennial of Contemporary Art, Sarajevo; Circulations Festival, Paris; Central Dupon, Paris; Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome; Museum of Santa Giulia, Brescia; Kunsthalle, Lana (BZ); European Photography, Reggio Emilia; Francesco Fabbri Foundation, Pieve di Soligo (TV), Centrale Fotografia, Fano; MIA, Milan.
