A series of black and white portraits of trees. I wandered through the forests around my hometown and encountered fallen trees, bowed trees. Solemn trees, not in their age but in their temper and poise. A sanctuary lost in time.
This project aims to explore the dimension of the forest as a place of contemplation. The observer is put in front of the tree’s laying body and is bound to confront it and mourn it. The reverence and tranquility inspired by their presence create an analogy with the camposanto, a sacred place.
It has been used a 1950 Leica IIIc, the chosen film is a reworked photographic film obtained from 1960s motion picture film from the Viennese production house Lomography (Berlin Kino 400 ISO).
