Nó (node) is the creation of a narrative centred on the node of Amadora, crossed by several highways in the suburbs of Lisbon, surrounded by a large industrial and residential area. And where we find an unlikely rural and (familiar) quotidian inscribed inside this node, a space with its own identity.
The access to this space/territory, which is similar to an Island, is done by walking along the highways. A territory that a Cape Verdean community group has transformed into a place of subsistence, social gathering, of stories that are told between the (dis)illusions and the memories of an absent country.
Older Cape Verdeans, now retired, came to Portugal in the 60’s, this was the colonizing country. A time when the Portuguese dictatorial government promoted the Cape Verdeans coming to this country to address the lack of manpower in the public and private construction industry. In the 80s most of these immigrants settled themselves in the Lisbon´s suburbs. Living with economic difficulties, these people cultivate pieces of land along the road, and with luck, namely, if it rains, can take some food for their family.
