The downhill skiing industry is experiencing a complicated moment, both for economic and structural reasons and for the climate change of recent decades which has resulted in a
constant increase in snow levels as well as a reduction in winter precipitation.
This has led to a gradual abandonment of ski facilities located at medium-low altitudes (from 800 to 1400 m) and to the use of artificial snow systems to guarantee at least a
minimum period of use of the same even at higher altitudes. For me, the history of these facilities is inextricably linked to my skiing experience and to my family: it is on these slopes that my father taught me to ski, and on these slopes I spent numerous Sundays with my family. In the pre-Alps of the province of Vicenza the situation created due to climate change is particularly felt, given that the maximum altitudes of the mountains on which the ski facilities were built in past years are all lower than 2000 m. In fact, on the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni alone there are about ten disused and abandoned facilities compared to 4 small-scale plants still active. The removal of abandoned plants is not easy and often the infrastructures remain for decades in the middle of meadows and woods.
The images were all taken in mountain locations in the Province of Vicenza.
