‘Move the mountains closer’ is the name of the Anthropocentric-sounding project that aims at expanding the ski-resorts in the Ossola.
In Abruzzo, a region in central Italy, a years-long discussion is ongoing to consider the expansion and the joint of two ski sites: Ovindoli and Campo Felice, resulting in a considerable transformation of the ‘Piani di Pezza’ plain, all in the name of boosting tourism and competing with the northern Italy ski resorts.
In a region, profoundly transformed by the tourists’ influx coming from the nearby Rome, where hamlets have become hollow bar in high season, the local authorities still prioritise holidaymakers over the local population.
Places and people, too, in turns have adapted to this new touristy role.
Towns and hamlets on the plain, tend to lose their character in favour of a more generic strain, by limiting their own identity to morph into a theme park, they embrace a perpetual ‘passing by’ state of existence.
This photographic work follows the plain. From the ski resorts -that in the 80s and 90s saw their splendour and still take centre stage today - the eye moves to the places and the people that have learned how to menage the tourist influx as they normally do with for the seasonal bad weather.
