Highland fictions
It is a series of images that began out of curiosity about what life is like near a mountain with such a rich historical past as Grammos as an attempt to understand and connect today with the long-suffering past.
The "little heroes", basically livestock breeders, the abandoned settlements and the captivating natural landscape are topics of interest for these photographic routes around the peaks of the mountain a breath from the border line. The absence of development projects and the lack of incentives to retain the local population led the younger generation to the embrace of the big cities, after the difficult situation in which the fur trade in the region found itself.
Grammos is the mountain-border between Western Macedonia and Albania, known for its natural beauty and history. A place that shields expansionist aspirations but also historical mistakes. These photographs constitute a topoanthropological study of a region that, although identified with the vortex of civil strife, today stands silent, offering a space for reflection and tranquility.
The images do not seek to stir up the passions of yesterday, but to highlight the reconciliation of today. In the faces of the protagonists and in the images of imposing nature, the power of life transcends the trauma.
The photographic series is in progress.
