Carezza is a little village of the Dolomites near Bolzano, Italy. At 5500 feet, seasons mark the flow of daily life and, for half year, the snow muffles everything. Known for its rainbow colored lake and for its mountains that turn pink at sunset, Carezza enchants visitors with several legends, many of which take part in the Latemar woods and in the Rosengarten fields.
The village is overlooked by a huge historic Hotel from the late XIX Century, The Grand Hotel Carezza, that reminds of the one in the movie "Shining". In the last 100 years, personalities such as Princess Sissi, Agatha Christie and Winston Churchill have visited the Hotel. I have been spending my holidays on the red carpets of its hallways since I was two months old. My grandfather was Administrator of the Hotel for many years and, whenever I go back, I find a part of me that stays there every time I leave the mountains.
Past and present combine, interact and often mix up. People and places have always been the ones of my childhood memories. Life goes on, therefore, when I come to Carezza, it seems that time stood still or that it repeats its infinite cycle just like the seasons.
These latter feelings, were alive until a few years ago. Since the Vaia storm, with the pandemic and “the call to the mountains”, Carezza is also undergoing a very rapid transformation, which I document by keep going with the project.
