The Tagliamento is a river that crosses the Friulian territory from north to south. Rising on the border with Veneto at an altitude of 1300 meters above sea level, it runs through the valleys of the Carnic Alps and descends to the plain, where its characteristic branched bed can be seen, to then flow between Lignano and Bibione.
The Tagliamento is the only river in the entire Alpine arc and one of the few in Europe to preserve the original morphology of braided channels. Due to this hydromorphological characteristic, as well as the uniqueness of the river ecosystem, it is also called the King of Alpine rivers.
Its uniqueness is threatened by a rolling project using expansion tanks and by a project that sees a stretch of motorway pass near the regional nature reserve of Lake Cornino, cutting and modifying the course of the river.
In May 2022, a four-day march was organized to raise awareness and understand these issues and to seek a dialogue between the administrations and the people who live along the banks of the Tagliamento.
The shots taken during the march by Elia Milanese and Abel Picogna document the banks of the river, its ecosystems, its life. The authors' main aim is to bring to light the need to preserve the natural course of the river and encourage dialogue from source to mouth.
