Volcano Generation is a visual journey through the life of the teenagers inhabiting the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic archipelago in the south of Italy in front of Sicily. Born and bred surrounded by the sea, the islands have shaped their gaze, making them able to create a special intimacy with the surrounding nature but also leaving them that inner curiosity about the world over the horizon; the volcanoes have given them a unique sensibility, a visceral a sense of belonging and a fearless relationship to the place they call home. By treasuring the importance of silence, long lasting friendships, and isolation, the kids of Salina, Stromboli, Filicudi, Alicudi, Panarea, Vulcano and Lipari, have learned to create an harmonic dialogue with the nature around them. By hiking to the highest peaks in winter sunny days and enjoying sleepless nights and sunrise runs to the top of the craters, the personal and unique bond with their island is undeniable, even at such a young age. Swinging between quiet, melancholic winters and joyful and sparkling summers, the projects aims at documenting the moods, the intimacy of the volcanic youth by visually representing the seasons of a teenagehood which found the harmony in a place that might look anything but peaceful, Vulcanoes.
