Vistas (2021-)
All of us live stunned in an era marked by rushes and distractions, in which a great range of possibilities and a frenetic pace embrace us in our daily lives. It seems like we do not have places to stop and plainly enjoy what we see.
Perhaps, this feeling of rush and limitless possibilities could mean that we become so immersed in our daily routines that landscapes are no longer being perceived as they should, since that moment in which an emotional bond with a certain place is generated could easily turn into smoke. In the end, we need to feel connected to the land. We need that feeling of belonging.
The relationship between human beings and landscapes is strange. On the one hand, we resort them when we need to escape from our routines, looking for places where we can take a breath or even traveling to get to know other places. On the other hand, landscapes have always been a battlefield that we manipulate at our whim. Many times we torture them without knowing and others being completely aware of it.
For many years, especially since we realized that tourism is a referential source of income, we have taken advantage of landscapes and their image. Looking at a real representation of a place should be enough. However, ironically, this type of images tend to be characterized by a strong man-made look that some would appreciate but most people do not.
It is in this line that the main question of this work arises: In what other ways do we make use of landscapes? By formulating this question, I have found out that its use is not strictly commercial but that there are other factors that result in it going beyond the attractiveness of touristic appeal. If we think of a spot where someone has decided to place the image of a landscape in order to beautify it, would this use be commercial as well? Partly, although there will also be merely aesthetic and even identity traits. After all, this way of dealing with landscapes serves as a way to create cozy environments for ordinary people.
In these images, double landscapes are formed, where one landscape intervenes with another, resulting in a new landscape.
