God created man in his own image, hence every individual conceals God inside him. In western society, rituals of aggregation are performed to try and evoke our spirituality, almost to summon a collective, shared spirituality, but we tend to neglect the individual effort needed for the utter spiritual experience. Meanwhile, we find ourselves facing extreme and unprecedented isolation in our daily lives, and we try to fill the void by abusing forms of artificial connection, which falsely makes us feel other individuals' proximity. The ascetic is someone who can transcend his physical condition, shun the concrete temptations and abuses, in order to sublime his spiritual ego to a higher form of truth. Isolation, both spiritual and physical, which is often seen as dreadful and dangerous, is the only entrance to a status of self awareness, which can ultimately lead to forgetting our own human nature to try and get closer to the partial essence of God inside us.
