Pantsuits were an essential tool for women operating in spaces historically dominated by men. Pantsuits hid a woman's femininity - and by that meaning their femaleness - for it was a serious liability.
This simple clothing brought women closer to equality - but at what cost? By glorifying the symbol of the suit, power and masculinity, femininity was marginalized. First wave feminism fought for equal rights by law and by law we should all be equal, cast in the same mold. Whilst leaning in towards the landscape formed and dominated by men, women and minorities have stripped down their identities.
Thread reflects the artist's research and torn feelings towards social issues using the pantsuit as a symbol. The title is drawn from a Christmas song familiar to Icelanders about the boy who received a ball for Christmas while the girl received a needle and thread.
