The meaning of Skrölt in English is I rattle on. When I was 18, I had an accident, a lesion on my right brain stem which left me disabled. My camera has a similar role in my life as a support animal would, providing comfort and companionship. When I rattle on it is always around my neck. The photographs in this series are made in March and April 2020 during the pandemic, and are a part of a larger, ongoing project. I have photographed my surroundings every day, over and over, for the past 3 years. During the recent months, an unknown mood filled my environment and my perception of my everyday surroundings became foreign. Reality became unreal, days lost their color and seemed motionless. This strange mood, coupled with curiosity and my camera, compelled me to rattle on and turn complex, even unknown thoughts and feelings into photographs. The extraordinary normality of the everyday is the anchor which keeps me calm, focused and motivated, just as it has done for a long time. Artist statement: I am Krummi and I am a photographer. When I was 18 I had an accident, a lesion on my right brain stem, I am disabled. My disability led me to my ability to photograph. Able, less able, more able, disable, I am always, in some way, able. By adhering to the seemingly simple and straightforward medium most of us engage with everyday, I am able to push myself forward and engage with my environment in a way I thought I was previously unable to do. Some days I can rattle on, maneuvering through the dangerous obstacle course of everyday life with my defiant walking pattern - a clumsy flaneur. The meaning of Skrölt in English is I rattle on.
