"Close your eyes and relive in your mind the images and feelings of the places you have visited" This sentence was the underlying thinking behind my work.

My work consists of photographic work, an installation and a spatial sound installation. Together these form an entity of works It has neither name nor place (2020). In my work I explore the concepts of memory, time and place through the urban landscapes recorded in my memories.

At first glance my photographic works may resemble views of urban landscapes and cities. However, I am not particularly interested in either of them. Instead, I am interested in memories of places and visual imagery my brain creates from my past experiences. Through my work I try to reproduce these internal images and feelings. My works are the embodiment of my multi-layered memories.

The concept and research are based on the thoughts of thinkers like Villém Flusser, Hans Belting, Bernard Stiegler, Honoré de Balzac, Susan Sontag and Roland Barthes. Artistic research behind the concept is broad-based and multidisciplinary with studies in sociology, philosophy, neurobiology and epigenetics. It’s a research at and beyond the frontiers of current understanding of human memory.

The title of the work is borrowed from Italo Calvino's book Invisible Cities (1972). The book is a fictional story of Marco Polo’s travels in the realm of Kublai Khan. The book paints a picture of cities and places that only exist in the imagination of people. I chose this very name because it opens the thematic connection of my work to my own imagination and memories.
