The culture of our nation, into which we are born, is a major part of our cultural identity, although this isn't a position we are born with. This identity is the product of the visual representation we are shown from an early age. The introduction of Hungary, showing life both at the capital, and in the countryside also the documentation of the general Hungarian mental state are the aims of my diploma project. I show an overview of Hungary that differs from the visual possibilities that I research in my main thesis. The main conflict of the images and the general idealised pictures we hold, is in how much they differ. This dissonance is always present when reality is interpreted subjectively, when the visual resemblance and the discovery is seperate. We can only understand a country/ culture to its fullest, if we try to avoid idealisation, and visit not only the standard tourist attractions.
