20×20 is a project about female peers around the age of twenty. It explores the confusing age that encapsulates young womanhood. The project shows a wide range of different young women, all sharing the fact that they have the same age. They all have different backgrounds and different stories to tell. The girls collaborated in the project by sharing their stories and writing them down. De Jong was accepted into their private lives and saw her subjects in their most vulnerable states of being. 20×20 is a mix of photography, illustration and text.
Isa de Jong is a Dutch photographer and illustrator whose work consists of in-depth projects with strangers. Together they create extensive series. She is interested in the ‘blind spots’ of societies and tries to focus on the individual within them. She wants to tell the hidden stories through collaborative portraiture.
